Republicans Stop … Please

May 22, 2025

Maine Democrats passed a two year budget last week.

Republicans are complaining about the process instead of forcefully proclaiming a better vision for Maine.

“One of their members remains stripped of the constitutionally guaranteed right to represent her constituents by voting” observed Michael Stuart Heath, “and all leadership can do is whine about the majority party ignoring them.”

The practice of adjourning the session to approve the budget has been used since time immemorial in Maine. The party that is out of power always complains about it.

Paul Madore suggested that it’s a tired talking point.

“This is an illustration of what concerns me about the weak leadership in the Republican Party,” said the recently retired Republican State Committee member. “The Party should be making political war to get Libby’s voting rights back. Instead even Republicans are divided over whether she should have published a tweet.”
